Just chiming in to the general discussion on WMs, but I've never found anything else like Awesomewm. It doesn't have a config file exactly, it has a file that instantiates the various parts of the WM, and you can add or change the code as needed at that point. It's maybe more like how you can include whatever python you like in a Django settings.py

As far as I know, no other WM is like this. I'm loving the unparalleled flexibility and freedom, although I would like to try out some Wayland options at some point.
