Yes, that's right. I mainly read on the kindle and I make a lot of notes and highlights while reading. These notes are synced to Amazon's cloud, which I can access by scraping read.amazon.com. I read paperbacks too, but I just add these to the library manually. No highlights from these.

I think highlighting is why I strongly prefer ebooks nowadays.
