Companies that invested in CXL got their money's worth. CXL is basically older RAM connected over PCI-e. Not only you're not throwing away RAM which cannot be used with the current generation of motherboard and chipsets, but you also have a way to get a lot of slower memory for applications that don't need the best and the newest.
