You have a point. I also noticed that the philosophical discussion seems light and completely ignores anything before Descartes. That’s a bad sign. Philosophy beginning with Descartes is riddled with all sorts of bad metaphysics in a way that, say, Aristotelian metaphysics is not. And materialism, which falls squarely into the Cartesian tradition, by definition excludes the possibility of intentionality which is central to consciousness.
